Spring Inspection season is here

2025 Spring Farm Inspection Season is Here-

As we move into the spring farm inspection season we wanted to share with each of you the general growing and agriculture market conditions we are seeing at the moment.

  • For dryland farms we manage across the West this past winter brought timely snow and rains. The winter wheat caught up after a slow start last fall and we have been receiving moisture in the month of March and early April. We will still need May and June rains to finish the crop but for the most part the crop is in above average condition.

  • For irrigated farms we manage across the west the spring planting season is well underway and irrigation on the farms has begun. We have seen farmers move the crop rotation around as potato acres in general have been shortened due to over supply. Corn and other row crop commodities seem to be steady on the planting intentions in our area with the forage crops seeing reduction in acreage due to stubborn lower pricing.

The markets continue to lag and stay in a range of lower prices that are causing many of the farmers we work with shorten the rope of expansion and work to stay profitable. Leasing conditions including renewals are under some pressure as we have operators having to trim leased ground due to overall financial stress. We will get the most current news as we begin two months of farm inspections but for the most part we all are holding on and hoping to see some positive movement in the pricing for all commodities.

We at Farmland Company continue to work diligently to care for the land and look forward to the 2025 season with hopes of higher yields to improve upon last years overall financial return.
